Day 303

Hallowe'en Week

movie: Blade
starring: Wesley Snipes, Stephen Dorff
genre: Horror
year: 1998
format: DVD

plot: Frost, a turned vampire is trying to invoke the vampire god and take over the whole race of vampires. There is one man who can stop him, a vampire with the gifts to walk in the sun. Blade,

The first movie in the series, and the series itself is based on the comic.

I think this film helped to make vampires tougher again, after the romantic vampire wave of the early 1990's.  It helped to bridge a whole fandom between what was happening in the vampire genre and what was happening in popculture in general.

It also made both the main actors mega stars.

Blade was one of the transition films, that really blended the action movies with horror, giving a new look and feel to them. And having Udo Kier, who's played a vampire almost as much as Sir Christopher Lee has, was a giant bonus.

what do i think i learned from this film?
There is always worlds within worlds, gangs within gangs, cultures within cultures. You just have to be open to seeing what you need to see when you need to learn it.
When you have a god complex, be prepared to fight for your beliefs, and know that you might not make it out the other side, not because you're wrong, but because you're right.
