Random movie Jan 17th

Movie: Meet Wally Sparks
starring: Rodney Dangerfield, Michael Weatherly
genre: Comedy
year:1997
format: Hollywood Suites Channel

plot:When a trash tv host is accidentally invited to the house of a politician, his director manages to convince him to do a live broadcast from the governor's house. They soon find themselves in the middle of a sex scandal that the governor is being blackmailed over.

This movie made me feel old. I remember when the majority of daytime tv was talk shows, both the Donahue style and the beginning of Springer style. This movie touches on the dividing line between the two "genres" as much as it does the dividing line between "old school comedy and new school raunch."

Which Dangerfield managed to balance nicely. There are moments in this when you can see the more innocent style of stand-up comedy via Red Skelton, and the style of late night comedy you get today.  Such as the scene when the young daughter comes home to find a naked man in her bed.  Personally, I don't know how you can miss a naked man in your bed, specially when it's Michael Weatherly. (raise your hand if you remember him as Cooper Alden on Loving/City)

This was good for the time, and for what it was. A bunch of one liners delivered between a lot of physical gags.
